Poem
I see my friend I’ve never met
in the language of dreams
we climb a wall in her hometown
it crumbles beneath us
a red, cracked
beautiful piece of
earth jewelry
we join friends of hers in an outdoor pool area on the
roof
green tile
three singers, old men
having a good time
sharing a croon
we sit
a waiter comes
thank you, I say
though no words escape
just the tune bouncing off the green walls
curling around the table legs and chairs
I am full of what I do not know of you
Full of love for your stories
we’d be friends as children
I know this in my hip
close to the bone
a cozy spot that sometimes moves and spins
and is very wise and safe
from all the pleasure and pain
there is a light switch there that is
always on
this is the part of me that is you
we are light encased for a time by a body
that climbs
and a mind that travels at night
at the speed of souls
you may get tired of me saying this
but this is our language
now
until our words catch up with experience
until we have won our humanity
we are one
we are one
we are one
